Seal Hop for Girls!
Girls Seal Hop Three people at a time, participants will be in a push-up position with her arms straight, palms down flat. Participant must remain in this position and hop across the floor on their hands and toes only. The rump must not be at a higher position than the shoulders at any time. Participants shall begin at the same time upon a signal given by the head judge. The winner is the participant whose travel is the farthest distance. Participants who make it far enough to turn around must continue to hop as they turn. Participants will be stopped for: stopping and restarting, raising the rump above the shoulders, touching the knees or stomach onto the floor.
Background
Events at are based on games and life skills of past generations of Alaska Natives played as a way to test their hunting and survival skills, and to increase strength, endurance, agility, and the balance of mind and body.
The Seal hop is thought to be about sneaking up on animals when you're hunting.
