The swedish christmas tree is not brought into the house until one or two days before christmas. They decorate the tree with candies, glass bulbs and sometimes straw trinkets with electric lights or sometimes candles.

 

The height of the Christmas celebration is Christmas Eve. This is more important than the actual holiday. No work is to be done on this day, except for making food.

After they eat, the "Tomte" comes. He is the christmas elf who lives under the floorboards of the house or barn. Tomte looks after the family and livestock throughout the year. He often brings presents and children graciously leave a dish of porridge for him.
