Smorgasbord is a Swedish term meaning an abundant buffet meal set with several hot and cold dishes. Usually they consist of everything from appetizers to desserts. The guests serve themselves, taking their pick of several different foods. A smorgasbord may be served at breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. It's the most common way to serve guests at your house.  

The table containing all the food is usually set in the middle of the room, with plenty of space around it. There is always a starting point on each table, which is where the plates are set. For larger groups, there is sometimes two starting points. At the opposite end of the table you will find the cutlery and napkins.
